How to get perfect lighting for your TikToks & Reels
Sep 12, 2022

Hard truth: Good lighting makes your videos easier to watch. We know content is king, but you can’t get there with bad lighting.
You can achieve a great look with everything you have at home. No equipment necessary. Here’s how.
Use a window

Open the curtain or blinds of your window.
Position your camera in front of the window so it’s shooting away from the window.
Stand in front of the window with the camera facing you. The light should be hitting you or your product.
Take advantage of late afternoon light

Go outside or find a window that faces South/West after 4PM. Let that soft afternoon light hit your face or your product at a sweet angle.
Go outside during the day

Avoid shooting outside when the sun is at its highest. Capture that morning or late afternoon light instead—it’ll look better on you.
Put a candle or dim lamp behind you to give your background some character.
Avoid ceiling lights as much as you can.
Use candles & lamps when it's darker

Put your camera next to, or in front of, a lamp and let that be your main source of light for your face.
Put a candle or dim lamp behind you to give your background some characters.
Avoid ceiling lights as much as you can.
